three /52

three favourites from The 52 Project

Che – 3/52 : this sunkissed capture represents the summer before he started school – a warm, happy, carefree few months
        – 15/52 :  basked in autumn light at the breakfast table; he sits here most mornings and chats to me
        – 20/52 : nearing winter and whistling as he walks; I can hear him when I look at this shot

Poet – 8/52 : I adore her happiness and joy; it’s such a common sight and yet I haven’t captured it very often this year
         – 10/52 : I love the drama in this shot; ironic consider it’s a one-year-old telling me she needs an apple
         – 18/52 : straight from a storybook, I hope I always remember the way she walked up the path, stopped, and smelled the rose

We are halfway through the year and as I try to comprehend just how fleeting it has been, I find comfort in the 52 portraits I have captured. As I look at the photos together I see a story – of their childhood and my motherhood. I’m grateful.

It's amazing to see how much they all have grown in 6 short months. I had such a hard time choosing only 3! If I could post them all I would! For me, memories flooded back with every single portrait of Sunny. This was such a lovely idea Jodi.

I found it so hard to choose just three! I love how each portrait sends you back to the week that you took it. The portrait of Poet on the kitchen is definitely one of my favourites, the lighting is divine!

'I hope I always remember…'- that's what I've loved about this project. Having this wealth of photos that can instantly take me back to a particular moment in time.
I love the shots you've chosen of your two. I love the roses, and the whistling.

Interesting that all of Che's are head and shoulders. And Poets are all full body shots. I love all of them. but did you note this when selecting your favourite three?

I picked them based on the feelings I had when I looked at them. Funny, I hadn't even noticed the head/shoulders + full body similarities x

It was a shock to look back at the last 6 months and realise how quickly they've grown. They're not babies anymore! What a gorgeous idea Jodi. And as always, I love your choice of shots.

Hi Jodi, It was so wonderful to go through my portraits for the year and feel a sense of pride that I've managed to keep up and capture some really precious moments. This project is really so great! Thankyou for facilitating it:) Your portraits are always inspirational, Che's eyes in the first shot and Poet's determination to get that apple! Magic!

oh i love all of these, but the first of Che is gorgeous! and the last of Poet! it actually looks like she's kissing the flowers!!! so sweet! Thankyou so much for this amazing Project. As I looked back on all 26 of my portraits for each of my children so far to select three to share, I realised just how much this project is a wonderful celebration of my children and as me as their mother!

You know Jody, I'm so sad because since last June I haven't posted anymore my three kids ' portraits ('ve been overwhelmed by too many things to do and think) . But seeing, this week, your portraits' evolution has inspired me and yes: I want to go on and, when it comes to last june, I'll post a portrait for the whole month. I'll try to forgive myself for this…

Goodness only knows how you managed to just pick three shots Jodi, everyone you post is beautiful. Over the months, I have been in awe of how you paint a portrait with light. Poet and Che are adorable! Such a lovely idea to do the half way 3/52. x
