scenes : in violet
/ sometimes weeds really do make the prettiest bouquets
/ flowering chives, overgrown edges and a veggie garden that is overwhelmed with onion weed (what a nuisance that is!)
/ edible florals in this week’s organic delivery
/ what is this flowering plant called?
/ we’re back into lessons at a new swim school. Both Che and Poet have learnt more in two lessons than they did in two years with another teacher. Fancy that! We also discovered the ear band-it for Poet – so much easier than a swimming cap.
/ the first purple hydrangea has bloomed.
and I’ve been reading:
when education becomes a business and the teacher quits
books you won’t stop talking about
transport perspective
haka pride
blood donors save lives (the text messages prove it)
time to reserve Applesauce at the library
new mum dilemma by Amanda Palmer
cozy time is sacred (and the key to happiness?)
homemaking rules – break some, keep some
Happy weekend!
Bella was the same we spend 1 whole year doing swimming lessons and then her school did a 2 week intensive program and she can do laps now.
A beautiful set of scenes! And growing up we always called that lovely flowering shrub "yesterday, today and tomorrow" – for the three shades of purple, violet and White perhaps? Happy weekend xx
What a name! x
Applesauce looks like just the type of Xmas book I'm looking for. If I buy from booktopia is there a code or something I can use so you get a kickback?
That's very, very kind of you to ask. I have applied to join their affiliate program and should hear back early next week re. details. No need for you to wait around for that, though. It really is the most beautiful Christmas book. So very Australian x
I'm not doing my Xmas book order till next week so please let me know. Happy for you to be getting something out of it, I really enjoy your blog and its a nice way to give something back.
Thanks so much! If you click on the Applesauce link above it will now take you to Booktopia via my affiliate link x
Thanks – I order it so I hope it worked! Thanks for your wonderful blog and list of suggestions. You've saved me a lot of time with various purchase and I am grateful.
I know it as 'Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow' due to the long lasting qualities of the blooms and the scent.
Perfect x
We call those purple flowes 'Yesterday Today & Tomorrow" The theory being that tomorrow's flowers are white, then turn light purple, today while yesterday's flowers are dark purple 🙂 Also known as "Morning, Noon, Night" Smells lovely!
Wikipedia tells me it's called "Brunfelsia pauciflora" and it's part of the Solenacae (the nightshades) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brunfelsia_pauciflora
The pretty bush is lovely but not at all good for hay fever or asthma sufferers.
My garden was overgrown with onion weed when we first moved in and I battled it for a couple of years until I read that you can eat the bulb (it is also sometimes called wild garlic: Michelle once wrote about it on Hugo & Elsa). Now I never need to buy garlic once my homegrown supply runs out in the winter months! But you might want to get stuck in with a shovel before you put in your summer veggies. Your pictures are beautiful, as always. x
Jodi, if you think the ear band is good – you should try the ear putty for Poet (if you are worried about water in ears). Another mum told me about it and it was great for my son after his operation.
We use the ear putty too (ear band over the top for extra protection) x
Love these posts, Jodi.

Beautiful photos Jodi! That flowering plant is called Little Boy Blue, or some people call it Yesterday Today & Tomorrow. It has the most heavenly scent!
