sakura bloom sling diaries – style

As we travelled from the mainland to the island we slipped on extra layers to keep warm. I wore Poet in the sling; she was cosy and she was close. At the airport I wrapped my scarf around her head in lieu of a beanie; multitasking.
My style is a blend of bohemian maxi skirts and classic French stripes. I wear yoga pants with long tee-shirts, ballet flats and a Mary Poppins bag (minus the lampshade). My wardrobe is a collection of vintage, second-hand, new, and borrowed. I usually wear a draped scarf around my neck; fashionable and practical (a great way to cover dirty little fingerprints). Sometimes I wear red lipstick.
Poet wears red beanie bonnet c/o acorn
Che wears Bergstein Gumboots c/o Fawn & Fox
A big heartfelt thank you to Luisa – photographer extraordinaire, amazing cook, sweetest companion – who travelled the apple isle with us.

I cannot get over how beautiful you all are- These photos are poetry. I have kept the sling up for as long as I can but my 20mth old now makes my old neck injury ache so- it makes me sad. Something about mama carry that is special, so special, Love Jxx

    Jodi,
Seriously, I love that skirt. You made it look so chic. I'm not sure I could pull of the same level of style with the same skirt. but I wish I had it so I could try.

Oh the serenity! I adore the picture that looks like you and Poet are having a dance in the apple orchard.
Especially lovely is the way your style is reflected in Che's – Grey knit, stripes and dark navy. Perfection!

Lovely lovely photos, I particularly like the one of you and Poet shot from the back. I've always wondered, is this kind of sling comfortable? I am thinking to buy one for the summer as the ergo seems to be a little warm and here is super hot, but I wonder if it would be comfortable enough to carry a 7 months old..

      Hi Mariella,

Yes, sakura bloom slings are perfect from newborn till 3! If you live in a hot climate I would recommend a 'pure linen' sling – a single layer of Irish linen. Choosing a colour is always the hard part x

I love babywearing, and the Sakura Bloom slings certainly look lovely, but are they worthwhile?
I have a moby wrap that I use here in London because it spreads the weight evenly on my back (it is warm though – perfect for here, notsomuch for warmer climes) but when we were in Sicily last week I DIYd an adjustable sling for the kiddo from a bedsheet which worked out great – and free!
An upcycling win I plan to recreate at home…

      Hi there,

I find the slings to be incredibly worthwhile. I've worn quite a few different brands of slings and I find Sakura Bloom to be the most supportive of my body and my baby. I purchased one when I was pregnant with my second baby, before The Sling Diaries began, and from first wear I was amazed at the back and shoulder support and how confident I felt to wear Poet without needing to have the extra support of my hands. Your sheet DIY looks fabulous but I doubt it would adequately support my wriggly worm of an almost 10month old!

For our hot climate I have found the linen sling to be cool and breathable x

Thanks for responding! I'll have to see how we get on as Gabriel gets bigger – I guess I'm just wary of spending more money on baby things because I'm tempted by lovely photos. Always appreciate an honest recommendation though, thanks.

Gosh, you are stunning Jodi. I loved wearing my babies (and I still wear Harper in the sling from time to time) and your words were so perfect.
Poet certainly looks calm and content while being worn 🙂

Oh how I miss my sling! My boy isn't all that big but at 17 months he just won't stay in the sling as he will with the carrier- he turns over and tries to reach for the floor. So sad because it was so effortless. I never tried the Sakura- I do remember looking at it but maybe it was expensive? Can't remember. I have a Maya and it was reasonably supportive.

Your pictures are so lovely. The skirt twirl makes me smile!

so many comments, so much delight, i have to add my own words of swoon. even as i write these words i want to go and have a look again, so stunning and delicious. Images of rosiness, hat, apples, lips and your delightful cheeks. I have loved my sling wearing years, the touch of their hands/head/body on your shoulder, arm, breast, secure and loved. I still wear Ilo in my sling (on my hip) and sometimes Poe likes to squeeze in as well (not at the same time). Hope you had/are having a gorgeous time in Melbourne. mwah.
