lately…
The jacarandas along our street are in full lilac bloom and I can’t help but stop every time we walk past them.
Seasonal flowers have been the pretty in our rather normal week. Poet has been feverish and clingy, uninterested in food and very interested in me. Sleep has been broken and the days have been long; a cycle of resting, cuddling, pottering, comforting.
Despite lying low and moving gently I have been quite productive. I bought a 2013 diary and finally accepted the fact that the new year is just around the corner, my desk is clean in readiness for the pre-Christmas deadlines and the washing finally got sorted and put away. I’m ignoring the sense of urgency that appears so suddenly at this time of year and rejoicing in fabulous op-shop finds (Christmas books by Shirley Hughes and Dick Bruna; two of many titles that will be mentioned in my “Christmas Reads” post, coming soon).
I also managed to squeeze in a quick yet thoroughly enjoyable lunch with Tracie and Linda of Dragonfly Toys. It was so lovely to finally meet them and hear all about their plans for the shop and Kokonor. They were pleased to hear that both Che and Poet will be having a very Dragonfly Christmas – Che is getting the cable car and Poet will be unwrapping the rainbow. Perfect.
Now, as we venture towards the weekend, I’m looking forward to simple dinners and early nights, perhaps a beach visit and a morning walk. You?
Oh poor Poet. (And you.) I'm looking forward to catching up with friends & the giving of Mexican gifts! Kellie xx
I can't decide what to get my daughter for Christmas. She'll be just shy of 3 months old so i know she won't remember but i want to get her something special for her first Christmas. I know she'll be showered with what i call "pink princess crap" from relatives so something not so girly will be in order.
I'm planning to head to the beach for a walk this weekend as i've just gotten the all clear to start gentle exercise again & next weekend i'll be starting post natal yoga with bub!
I love the look of Poet's bed, so calming.
Such beautiful photos. The fabric of Poet's trousers is so lovely I want a dress in it – or anything really! I love Shirley Hughes and I'm looking forward to your 'Christmas Reads' – ideas for books are always very much appreciated! I think our weekend will be all too hectic – but we'll hopefully take the time for a walk in one of the National Parks near us.
(I hope Poet feels better soon – it's always so hard to see our little ones out of sorts x)
Sorry to hear about Poet's lack of sleep and appetite. Do you think she's teething again? I found out my daughter is already getting a moral and I didn't notice until last night!
molars, bottom canines and a little cold I think. Makes for a very whingy week x
Beautiful images. Sorry to hear about Poet! My wee one has been the same this week. Must be getting around (the country!).
Looking forward to your reading list post.
Our weekend will hopefully involve the beach, a visit to see the gallery to see the Picasso to Warhol exhibition, and good food.
Poor Poet, hope she feels better soon.
We will hopefull go to the beach this weekend. x
I feel your pain Jodi, I also have had a very clingy tantrumy little boy the past two days, although it all disappears when they fall asleep on you clutching a piece of chewed apple.
Looking forward to a morning at the beach and time in the garden – this slow start to summer is just what we like here!
the spring flowers are blissful aren't they. Here in Melbourne, we've been treated to beautiful trees since the ornamental plums in early September. Now the trees lining our street are blooming – but I don't know what they are, being a Brisbane girl and all. Jacarandas I am VERY familiar with – we used to live near the river and regularly visited the University of Queensland where there were so many Jacarandas the very air we breathed was purple! Shirley Hughes is a marvellous find – she's our all time favourite author and illustrator – have you read The Naughty Little Sister books? She didn't write them but did the illustrations – they are wonderful and very very funny. Now, inspired by your washing folding, I may just vacuum … may … wishing you better sleep soon.
it's a drag when ikkies are hanging around making babes clingy and mumma's needing rest. Spring is a wonderful time of year, i just wish melbourne would give us a bit more warmer weather. I've ordered my Frankie 2013 diary and can't wait to already plan ahead. Wishing you a lovely relaxing weekend x
Poor little Poet. Lots of quiet days around here too, I quite like it that way. xo
Poor Miss Poet (but what a beautiful photo). I'm still in denial that the year is almost over – but the cicadas are singing outside signalling christmas around the corner.
This weekend I'm looking forward to a wedding down the coast and plenty of time exploring outdoors with my children. x
cicadas – the Australia summer choir x
poor baby, my boy is super clingy too and i think teething…he's a few days older than poet but only has 7 teeth. yay for Christmas time.
I have a very clingy wee man at the moment too, teething for sure. Looking forward to getting out for some sea air at the beach and doing some pottering in the garden. Take care x
looking forward to your christmas reads post. i have been borrowing christmas books from the library to read myself to see if there are any christmas stories we might like to purchase (bit early to read christmas stories to a little one). i am always interested to see what others choose to read to their children.
we love shirley hughes and i have ordered a couple of her books as christmas gifts.
hope little poet is feeling better soon x
looking forward to this weekend ….. Jess is coming home and will be telling me all about her travels down under and bringing lots of photos. She was so pleased to catch up with you all (and meet Poet!) and your mum down in Sydney. Lots of love Jackie xx
Little Poet is such an adorable creature. I hope she's well again soon.
We're planting our tomatoes out this weekend and visiting a local market.
Have a lovely weekend.
Look at those rosy cheeks!
She is adorable even when under the weather!
Enjoy your weekend…your plans sound just about perfect.
i was amazed to see that you also call this tree jacaranda! i'm from Brazil, and that is how we call it there, but I've always thought that it was a very brazilian name. i wonder how you pronounce it… anyway, they are beautiful, aren't they?
good look with the end of the year. it is an exhausting time, but also very exciting! i'll be coming here to see what you are up to. 🙂
Ah, Phiney's been the same this week. Restless nights, plenty of cuddle time and an awfully sore bottom. There's certainly some teething going on! Hope Poet feels better soon…the bloomers look perfect on her.
This weekend we have birthday lunches and baby showers to attend…plenty of cake for Mama so you know it'll be a good one! Xx
Wishing you a peaceful, restful and homey weekend full of pottering and cups of tea. Steph : x
And Dragonfly Toys have our Christmas just about covered! Love, love, love them.

Poor poet – hope she is on the men's soon.
I just placed a large order with dragonfly toys today. Cable car was on the list! With 10 cousins under 7 years they were my lifesaver. Can't wait for mr postmen.
simple dinners, early nights, a beach walk? sounds like a bit of heaven to me.
Have a lovely weekend Jodi. I hope Poet is feeling better.

Ahh the jacarandas. Sigh. So beautiful. Sickness here too – hoping you all stay well and Poet gets better soon. x

Poet is adorable. Those eyes get me every time.
Do you think i am too old to buy a rainbow for my self for Christmas? I have always loved them 🙂
As for me, I have rediscovered my loved for russian caravan tea and doing my best at surviving solo parenting for two weeks. Hope your home is filled with good health again really soon x
I hope she feels better soon. Love jacarandas (even though they do remind me of university exam times!).
Working on our 2011 Project Life album this weekend. It always starts off slowly but hoping to gain some momentum as I go…
Ronnie xo
Much love to Poet, hope she gets better soon. I know what is like to have a sick clingy bubba. Two weeks of Jarvis being a cling on.

ps..Have a competition over on my blog until Sunday night.
Every time November rolls around, I tell myself I won't get caught up in the silly season hectic pace – and I inevitably give in to it, getting stressed out and anxious about fitting everything in. This year is going to be different! I'm making a strict promise to myself!
