Etsy for Mother’s Day
Considering we’re trying to cull our belongings, I’m not wanting or expecting any gifts for Mother’s Day. But I admit, I am very looking forward to croissants and coffee, handmade cards and an afternoon nap.
The not wanting a gift is a new thing for me and I admit, it’s a really nice place to be. I used to be a bit of an over-achiever when it came to spending; and all that spending was driven by so much wanting. Over a year ago, when work significantly slowed, I curbed my spending habits out of necessity and subsequently stopped looking for things to buy.
Granted, there were still things I saw that I really, really liked but instead of instantly buying them I’d step back, think about them, consider whether they were worth the money, and, in most cases, decide I didn’t need them after-all.
I think this might be conscious consumerism. Close to it, anyway.
But the necessity bit? Well, no doubt it’s a common story for many of you. Because when you’ve got a bit of spare cash, there’s usually a long list of things that are required before you buy yourself something; we do tend to come after the outgrown kids shoes, seasonal clothing necessities, school requirements etc
So when the fabulous team at Etsy reached out to see if I’d like to give away a $100 voucher, I knew that it would be perfect for one of my readers.
Because spoiling yourself on something handmade would have to be one of the best Mother’s Day gifts, don’t you think?
To enter, just tell me in the comments what you would buy with the voucher and why you want it.
Me? I think I would get myself something from NotPerfectLinen – I think this dress or maybe this simple top.
I’ll announce the winner on Sunday morning so if you do get a chance for some Etsy perusal on Mother’s Day, you can have yourself a little spending spree.
Good luck!

I really love anything from MirDinara’s store. I’d really love some of her pretty teatowels to brighten up my kitchen. https://www.etsy.com/shop/MirDinara?ref=l2-shopheader-name
I’m definitely trying to be a conscious consumer and really think about purchases in terms of what is really necessary. We are on a journey to live with less and hoping our kids will grow up to not put so much value on “things”. However, if I were to win a $100 Etsy voucher, I would probably buy some weaving supplies from Loom and Spindle so I can actually find some “me” time and put my creative energy to good use 😃
I was going to say a linen dress also…now it looks like I’m copying you. But I’ve been wanting one for so long especially since having my last baby (10 months ago) and feeling like a potato sack most days I would love to wear something feminine and pretty…it will probably get peanut butter smeared on it but them the breaks 😀
I would love to get the MARSEILLE skirt from notperfectlinen. I’d love it because I love this company and this skirt would be so well worn and loved all year round! 💕
I’ve been dreaming of the NotPerfectLinen Mama dress (perfect for my winter pregnancy and spring breastfeeding) but would also love to stock up some embroidery kits and patterns from various Australian and O/S makers. But the reality could be I’d end up purchasing something for the new babe, wouldn’t I? Defeats the purpose, but mamas be mamas.
Ah, so true! I always get side-tracked my cute baby things that will be worn for a few months (and yet I can’t justify buying myself something that will last me years!) x
A new handbag. As I move from the baby/toddler stage, I no longer need to lug so much stuff. I’d love to splurge on a nicer, more compact daily accessory for myself x
I would buy some hand dyed (naturally is my favourite) wool to knit up a sweater for the fall. The wool is a gift, the process of knitting it up is a gift, and the wearing of the item is a gift!!! The gift that keeps on giving!!!! <3
I’d probably go for an embroidery or knitting kit so I can finally make something handmade for my kiddos. I always mean to but never have. I know it’s mother’s Day and I should get something for me but it fills my heart with so much not joy to give to them – seeing as they’ve given me everything I could ever really want.
I fell in love with this dress a while ago and would buy it for two reasons: first of all I’m pregnant and looking for something comfy to wear for a forthcoming wedding. but most of all it reminds me so much of my beloved mum who passed away two years ago. she was a practicing buddhist and always wore red dresses. it makes me think of her and wearing a red dress somehow always feels as if she was hugging me again.
love from Germany.

This is such a touching comment to read Liz x
Congratulations, Liz. You’re the winner! Happy Mother’s Day x
i’m consuming way less then i used to, as my kids get older they are so much more expensive and i’m so much more aware and protective about where the money gets spent. i would pick something for my home. Probably an art print or two, something that will last and also help support an artist.
Ooh … the choices Jodi!
I have been working very hard to buy fewer things of better quality over the last year or so.
But I recently broke my engagement ring. So I would put the voucher towards a new ring I have my eye on.
Although Emily Peacock’s counted cross stitch kits are always beckoning too: hours of cathartic creativity.
I love NotPerfectLinen! I’ve been following their work for some time but haven’t been able to purchase yet. Definitely something from their show. Love their skirts most.
I would LOVE to win this!! I have a big list of favourites saved on Etsy… antique bits and bobs for the house, artwork etc but I am actually an ‘underbuyer’… I think purchases over so much that I never end up buying anything (or it is sold when I finish procrastinating and go to add it to my cart). I would love to treat myself to something for once without feeling guilty for being ‘indulgent’ and buying a ‘want’ as opposed to a ‘need’.
Since this is my second Mother’s day (the first with a baby just some days old) I was looking for a necklace or a pendant custom-made with the name of my baby as a treat for myself. Or a lovely summer skirt.
There are definitely beautiful linen dresses on Etsy, just like some beautiful jewelry I’ve been eyeing for a while. However, I think I’d split the voucher in a half, so my own mother could pick something she likes. She’s currently at the hospital and will be until past mother’s day, so this would be the perfect pick me up (since I didn’t get around to pick anything for her due to the chaos of it all) ❤
Oh gosh! I’d spend so long browsing and trying to find the perfect way to spend this!
A knitted jumper, a linen apron or a custom address stamp? Limitless options!
I would purchase some amazing Nani Iro fabric and somehow extract myself from my boys for an afternoon and create a new dress. The afternoon making without interruption would be simply divine and the memory of this would come alive every time I wore the dress.

I’m back at Uni after a divorce, so very careful with my spending, naturally. I would simply adore a candle and a new coffee mug, as my fav got broken in the move. Thanks for the lovely giveaway, what a beautiful idea! ☺
I’m a mother-to-be and I’d love some linen or gauze cloth for my future baby. I have nothing new for the first few months but I’d love some good quality/ organic/ handmade baby cloth for her!
I am consuming so much less as well… it feels amazing. Just recently I saw a beautiful handmade necklace with my kids birth stones and leaves with their initials. It is simple and beautiful. I have been looking at it for weeks… just can’t seem to click purchase tho….
Mother’s Day Gift Custom Necklace For Mom, Custom Initial Necklace, Mommy Necklace, Family Necklace, Personalized Necklace, Mom Gift by Delezhen….
What I would love for Mother’s Day is a simple necklace with the initials or names of my daughters, so that they’re always close to my heart always.
I’ve been eyeing some of the monarch gear from nature supply co/magnolia roots. We plant a lot of milkweed and other plants to support pollinators in our yard and would be fun to get their shirts for my kids!
An Etsy spending spree! How delightful. I would choose either ceramic tumblers for my morning coffee and evening wine or a nursing friendly linen dress to get me thru the sticky summer days ahead.
There is so much beautiful artwork that I’ve been eyeing for a loooong time and I would be thrilled to finally add them to my walls. Such a great giveaway- Thank you!!
I see I’m not the first who would snag the not perfect linen Mama dress for a summer of breastfeeding. I have been eyeing it for months but there were always baby things that came first.
I also try to shop consciously and find I do okay on myself, but I definitely tend to splurge on the kids… For myself? A linen dress does sound about perfect! 🙂
I know the card isn’t just for NotPerfectLinen, but I’d get a pair of linen pants from them. I’ve developed varicose veins on my legs and don’t like to show them off anymore. But it gets stinking hot here in the summer. I’m hoping linen pants would allow me to stay covered up, yet cool.
Oh my words…it has been ages since I bought something for me that was not necessity! I would probably buy a nice handmade summer dress (I live in the north hemisphere) to replace a few maternity ones still hanging in my closet 🙄 Thank you Jodi, I love your writing and look forward to hear about your upcoming adventures. Marina
i ‘m in the market for a new quilt! this would be perfect! ♥️
I have a very hard time spending money on myself. But for Mother’s day I’d like to buy myself something to remember my three children in Heaven. I’ve seen beautiful custom necklaces with birth stones of children, and I would probably go for one of those. One sapphire and two rubies, to keep my little babes close to my heart.
I would buy a beautiful hand made wallet, I’ve been dying for a new one for so long but can never find one that’s just right and had that different flare.
I’d buy a beautiful ceramic mug & breakfast bowl by one of extraordinary makers we have in AUS. These little things can help set up the day & having something nice for myself when I rush around wrangling children is a small daily act of self love ❤️
After my last pregnancy, my feet grew. I really need new shoes because I can’t wear sandals in winter! Also, my bag broke recently and I haven’t replaced it. I bought it before I was first pregnant close to six years ago. Plus, my hairbrush is really on its last legs. However, beingme means I’ll buy things for my kids before I buy for me. So, I’ve been wearing too small shoes, carrying my things in a backpack and grimacing each time I brush my hair. If I won the $100 Etsy voucher I’d probably browse through the Australian leather bag designers and after much deliberation choose one that’s just the right size
I would love to buy silhouettes of each of my children! I have seen these, and they look amazing!
I saw these jade roller thingies you can use to roll on your face. To encourage my aging skin back to health. Or a linen dress!
I’ve been eying off the bags at bookhoudesign for ages, I would purchase a bag that’s just for my things, not things for my girls! I do love a good handbag and theirs are beautifully made, plus the fabrics are gorgeous too.
I would love to buy a pretty handmade mobile for baby #4 we’re expecting near the end of the year! I’ve always loved them but they have definitely always been a “want” instead of a “need.” x
I would buy some leather label tags to complete my craft (art maker mamma income dream) projects, it would be a relief to be able to complete these creative pursuits and share with the world.
My mom got diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year and it has been a rough journey of surgery and chemotherapy. Right now, her scans are clear (praise God!) and I would love to get her a handmade gift to celebrate her life and her strength thus far.
I love this! I’d buy some new linens from here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/112JamesStreet/items because my old ones are quite worn. Happy Mother’s Day!
I know these sentiments well! I’ve actually found the practice of writing out or drawing a picture of my wants (say beautiful books or clothes or fabric) helps somehow with lessening the hold of the desire for them and I can get record to look back on / how often time passes and we no longer think we need/want those things so much! If I was to buy something from Etsy it would either be some beautiful Japanese linen to sew myself a set of luxurious pillow cases or a set of silk underwear / i’ve finally weaned by last babe and realise all my underwear is faded, I’ll-fitting and not terribly flattering! Thanks Jodi xx
What a wonderful giveaway! This is my second Mother’s Day (that time has sped by!), and I would love to buy a necklace featuring my baby daughter’s birthstone – a special reminder of my little love.
Oh my first thought was something from NotPerfectLinen! I have been hoping to purchase something from them when it was my turn to be at the top of the list. I would love one of their dresses or a new blouse.
I’ve been wanting some linen pants and tanks from Linenfox! What a fabulous mother’s day gift that would be!
The handmade cards and trinkets I receive every year from my bebes are my most treasured possessions… I would LOVE something to store them safely (and beautifully!) in…
These engraved wooden boxes are so lovely – practical and beautiful…
I Carry Your Heart Wood Keepsake Box [Memory Box / 5th, Fifth, Five Year Anniversary Gift / Personalized Baby Gift / Wedding Box] by Cardtorial on Etsy http://etsy.me/1oBWg1G
Great minds think alike! I love Not perfect linen & have had one of their hang up laundry bags on my pinterest wishlist for a very long time. We are moving into our first home next month (I love the idea of hanging one on the back of my bathroom door) so it would be a timely gift!
oh i was going to say not perfect linen too! Probably the November tunic for winter, with room for preggo tummy! x
I think that i would like to buy a mobile from lappaleinen for our bathroom. so simple and so elegant.
Ooooh… a Thief and Bandit bralette set… my wee babe is 8 weeks old tomorrow and I’ve been making do with terrible underwear during pregnancy and postpartum… would LOVE something prettier… since I spend my time wandering the house in my undies now, it would be nice to feel fancy while doing so…
This is such a lovely give away. My very first thought when I saw this was how much I would love something from Not Perfect Linen! I have wanted a few things from there for a little while but building a house and having two beautiful little girls, clothes for myself just isn’t high on the priority list of things to purchase.
My son started making a “duck face” at about 4 months, smooshing his lips up to his nose. He still does it at almost 2. So I’d LOVE this mug for Mother’s day that captures that face so well! https://www.etsy.com/listing/173958973/best-friend-gift-her-unique-pottery-mug
So many women deserving this voucher! There are so many things I’d love, and when the kids are in bed tonight I’m going to go through these comments and bookmark some of your Etsy finds! But if I won the voucher, I’d start off by buying a couple of pairs of earrings – perhaps some large gold discs? My skin is all over the shop these days and I haven’t bought new clothes in many moons, and most mornings I wake up looking like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards. A pair of earrings improves this look somewhat.
any of the many beautiful vintage items on BarnabyJack’s shop. Such carefully chosen items, it would be hard to chose just one! Their vintage jeans and t’s are right down my alley. Happy mothers day!
What a nice prompt to get us dreaming….I would have to go for a hand poured, soy candle, some aromatherapy bath salts, and a natural mud mask. Sometimes the spa must come to me:-)
It’s not EXACTLY for me, but I think I’d buy a beautiful handmade quilt or knit baby blanket with the voucher, as I’m pregnant for the first time this Mother’s Day and a celebration of the baby to come feels like a celebration of me too.
xxx
I would love to replace my wallet. I have a leather one that has lasted me many, many years but it is now cracked and discoloured even after gentle care. I often look through the etsy creatives and admire their skills in the handmade leather bags, purses, pouches, wallets etc. So much skill, effort and beauty. A wallet made with love by hand would be my choice 🙂
A hand done ink picture artwork of our family! Where you send in a photo and they do it for you
I’d buy myself lots of hand dyed yarn to buy myself hours and hours of enjoyable knitting!
I’ve been eyeing off the pillowcases by flossy p on Etsy for several years now. I just can’t decide which ones are my favourite. Sarah (the artist behind flossy p) and I went to school together and crossed paths again at our school reunion. I always remember her artwork at school was amazing, so it’d be super lovely to support an old school friend.
I would buy some beeswax candles and a new mug for my evening cup of tea.
This resonates with me- although I’m yet to have the discipline to follow through with the idea of sitting with something and pondering if my ‘need’ is a need or want. I’m a slave to my ever evolving shopping list!
Having said that I would really love a new pair of pjs. My current selection are too small and include various old t-shirts and pants that seemed to have shrunk over the years. Not essential but it would be lovely to keep my squishy bits warm and Etsy does have some homemade loveliness that would tickle the ‘want’ list nicely.
Ps promise to not spend the voucher on my kids (I’m sure every mother will understand this ‘need’!)
I love sewing quilts so I would probably buy fabric, and make a quilt to give as a gift.
