confessions

In the hours after her birth, when I was flying oh so high on those hormones, I couldn’t quite believe that I had been blessed with a daughter. And while most of the time I was thinking about her eyes (that gaze!) and her lips (oh they’re so kissable) and her perfect little body (that’s mighty strong) I must confess that I was also thinking about vintage floral. Yep, floral fabrics. And a certain romper featuring a big, red strawberry on front. And the little dress I found an at op-shop years ago and bought ‘just in case’ I ever had a girl. There’s actually a whole drawer full of those ‘just in case’s’. And then I started thinking about how we can, as muma and daughter, read Little House on the Prairie together. “Oh I have to get her a bonnet,” I thought.
When I finally found the time to trawl through etsy (patience, I tell you) I stumbled across little betty designs and there it was…Poet’s bonnet. It’s beautifully crafted and damn gorgeous to boot. With summer fast approaching I’m pretty happy that it serves as a good sun hat too. So thank you Christy for making it with such care…it will be cherished!
Little Poppet in her bonnet…
As for Che, bonnet’s aren’t really his thing but hanging out under the bed is. He takes his lego under there and sets up a little town complete with make believe characters and intriguing plot lines. Imagination is a wondrous thing.

That bonnet is so pretty! I have always had a very strong feeling that when i have a baby i would only ever have one (even though i want 2) & it would be a girl. I have a small cupboard full of unisex baby clothes i've picked up over the years & there is a fair few girls outfits that i couldn't resist, including one little romper with a strawberry on the front(i wonder if it's the same one?) so we'll see if my strong feeling comes true hopefully next year!

Yep, it's a vintage floral fest in this household too. And Lalie must have about 3 vintage bonnets – nothing cuter!

Girls are lovely. Yours is especially scrumptious!

Love Che's little toes poking out from under the bed. It must be a whole other world for him under their. How fun 🙂

That bonnet is awesome, i would love one, not sure whether I could pull it off though. It is Poe's fifth birthday tomorrow and we have been busy crafting vintage floral pants for him, making him a fairy dress for his fairy party and reading Little House on the Prairie, which he loves. luckily i get to enjoy all these wonderful things even with my son. Love that picture of Che under the bed. x jay

Nothing sweeter than a bonnet on a little girl. Violet had one during her first few months too, also from Little Betty. It's a bit small now so I might need another one. Bonnets are also far better for actually staying on, unlike hats.

You have the two sweetest children in all of blogland. And that hat is the most precious thing. xx

ps. I have a stash of vintage dresses too, just in case. Although we're still sure this one's a boy. You have to grab it when you see it though, right. If not this time, then maybe next… xx

Sweet! I bought my daughter a bonnet in Echino fabric from Etsy for her 5th birthday, to go with the Little House Birthday book. She wore it to kinder a few weeks ago, and we got so many positive comments both on our walk, and at kinder. Bonnets are back 🙂

oh she looks so sweet! I adore the little house books – and still read them now – they're almost comfort reading! And when my girlie was little – very little – we read them each morning whilst she breastfed (she breastfed until she was 4). She would come and pop into bed with us, as the sun was rising, I would make a cup of tea, and then she would snuggle up and I would read the little house books aloud to her. It was bliss. She went on to read them herself and listen to them on audio – they are favourites. I can just see Poet at the beach this summer with her bonnets – Angry Chicken has a lovely pattern for one if you would like to make your own.

the bonnet is precious, like your little poet. I'm living the "little house on the prairie" dream with my beautiful daughter. It's wonderful. Don't forget Holly Hobbie. She sleeps on the same holly hobbie sheets I used to have. special. Jane x

HI Jodi, thanks, am totally in love with this bonnet and have ordered one for the little Gigi. I always harboured LHOTP fantasies too. I have so far read the first to Ivy. She became obsessed with the notion of butchering a pig, just like Pa did, and talked of nothing else but the details of slaughter for a week.

    Ah, little girls…

You have such joy ahead of you.

Me, I am feeling more recovered every day. Thank you for all your kind words of support. They were deeply appreciated.

Oh, I relate to this. Except in my case I have ordered vintage floral fabric dodads for the nursery makeover (must get around to blogging about this!) despite not knowing whether I'm having a new boy or girl AND despite the fact that the preschooler is obviously a boy.

Vintage floral fabric cannot be denied 😉

Our girl lived in bonnets and I too confess that I kept quite a few 'just incase we have another girl' clothes…I am also guilty of buying vintage baby clothes at the opshop 'just in case' 🙂
