summer : the last weekend
Ever since school started, Fridays have taken on a whole new meaning.
This afternoon a tired little boy will walk in the door. I’ll treat him to pikelets with jam and cream and while he eats I’ll remind him that for the next few days we don’t need to do anything or go anywhere.
As we teeter on the edge of summer, with monsoonal weather the norm, I’m noticing the quiet anticipation of autumn. I’m wanting to bake and roast food and gather good books for quiet afternoons. The perfect activities for rejuvenating weekends.
What are your weekend plans?

a lovely reminder. Autumn is my favourite season by far! Some gardening and pottering around. Enjoy yours xx
…my favourite season too x
Roman is loving Friday afternoons too. We have also started letting him stay up a bit later on Saturday nights to watch a family movie together and eat popcorn. A great weekend treat for my little boy who is not so little anymore!
I'm looking forward to doing absolutely nothing this weekend! It's time for our family to unwind and relax : )
beautiful!

Weekends take on a whole new meaning when the little ones start grade school. My daughter is so tired by the end of the week, we are all thankful for the do nothing, unscheduled time. Enjoy your weekend!
I'm so excited for Autumn, by far my favourite season, also my birthday is smack bang in the middle of it! This weekend, going by the weather right now, i'll be staying inside snuggling with my bubba.
it's absolutely pouring here – sideways rain! A cosy few days ahead x
Your writing is always so infallibly beautiful…
I had forgotten (would you believe) that autumn is just around the corner.
Love your photos too.
Ronnie xo
some cosy days inside sound oh so good right now! funny how ready we are for the change in weather… then wait for the next change, lol!!
Our Fridays have become just like this … I look forward to it! And yes, I think Autumn must be my favourite season too. Knitting has begun already! Enjoy your weekend of quiet and cosy x
What are you knitting Ally? x
yes, thank you for the reminder. I will make sure we make the most of this weekend.
xo
Jody do you know the book "Today we have no Plans" by Jane Godwin and illustrated by the lovely Anna Walker? It's a firm favourite in this house and captures that wonderful weekendy outbreath.
This weekend for us? I need to make some sheets for preschool, and want to bake a date loaf.
I too, am ready for autumn. I feel we've truly been able to swim and be outdoors a lot this season, unlike last year!
Oh yes we have that book and we love it so. Jane & Anna are one of the best picture book duos in my opinion.
We have had a fabulous summer haven't we?! I'm so grateful for all those days spent outside…it makes the move into autumn that much sweeter x
We usually have a pyjama day on either the sat or sun…or sometimes both depending on how busy we've been…
Totally agree… Can't wait for autumn and the new colours that will emerge around me x
No 3 o'clock call out! x
I'm looking forward to just staying in…especially if the weather is as wet and horrible as they are predicting.
Taking a trip down south, eating apple cake and felting…
Gosh I forget that it is the end of summer for you and the beginning of all the colours of autumn. Here we are ushering in the hope of spring and sweeping away the cobwebs of winter. xo
My son attends to the kindergarten from Monday till Friday (8-16). On Friday he is so tired and exhausted. Although we have winter – it's cold, windy and cloudy and days are short. Generally we spent weekend at home with brakes for sledding or skating. We are waiting and longing for spring. Have a nice weekend.
Love these photos!! I too am looking forward very much to autumn and the slightly cooler days perfect for both enjoying the outdoors as well as pottering around the house 🙂
I had forgotten that this would be our last weekend of Summer, a cool change will be nice. The coolness of Autumn is a lovely time of year, along with Spring they would have to be my favourite seasons. This weekend there will be some house work to do and then a date for hubby and I while the girls enjoy some time with Grandma. Enjoy your weekend I hope it's a restful one. xx
So interesting to see you getting ready for fall, when all we are doing here is waiting for Spring to start 🙂 I don't think I really have a favourite season. Somehow every season has it's beautiful aspects, don't you think? I think what I love the most is the fact that the seasons change. Every season has it's moments in which I love that one the most, but also the weeks in which I so look forward to the next one, anticipating, getting ready, changing routines and clothes. It's an everlasting adventure. 🙂
hope you have a beautifully relaxing weekend x
p.s. did you get my email re: wool?
p.p.s. is that a chameleon pram? do you like it?
Will email you re. wool. Yes, it's the chameleon and we love it. It's actually 5.5 years old… bought it just before Che was born and it's still going strong. It's a great footpath pram…not so good 'off road' x
Richard Scarry! Casper got a full set of those books from my Dad, really cool 80s op shop find. Can you send some of that rain down here? it's stultifying! I'm eating frosty fruits and sitting in the clamshell all weekend!
have a nice weekend! <3
i know exactly how you feel, except reversed. i'm longing for spring. i can feel the warmth on the horizon, i want to bake with fresh fruits and tend to my garden. soon.
happy weekend.
Such lovely thoughts! I hope you do end up with a perfectly peaceful weekend. We're actually in the process of moving, so its going to be a busy one.
It's a snowy winter here in the midwest, so we may make a snowman, but we are also going to spend a very quiet weekend as my husband slipped on the ice and sustained a bad concussion! It's been quite a week. Thanks for the reminder to slow down.
Now that our oldest is in Kindergarten, Fridays mean something else now, too. It's exciting to me that he gets excited about Friday 🙂
our weekend plans include a birthday party and waiting for spring. 🙂
i must ask, what is a pikelet?
Pikelets are basically just little pancakes. I've used a few recipes but this one is by far the best….it create the lightest, fluffiest pikelets I've ever eaten -http://www.exclusivelyfood.com.au/2007/05/pikelets-recipe.html x
We finally have sun here in Brisbane today! So my Saturday plans are gardening and then swimming at my sister's. Both activities Jarvis and I love doing together. But then I have a boy who loves digging in the dirt, plus floating in the water. So we will both be happy and tired come tonight.

I loveRichard Scarry! We will be reading him. And waiting to see if Miss Pepper finally rolls over 🙂
go Pepper! x
Aw, I always love her dresses! And there's such lush green where you live. Beautiful photo of Che in the library…gorgeous light..and that background…yes, yes, great place to be!
Lovely plans for us this weekend…..
Last night I treated my Nan to a night in a hotel in Melbourne and we went along and saw the 'War Horse'. Just a beautiful story, a beautiful production, just amazing….
Enjoy the rest of your weekend x
PS: I can't wait for Autumn, my favourite season….
With your Autumn approaching, that means our spring is on the way! Lovely to experience opposite transitions together. =) So glad your Che is a Richard Scarry fan. He is our all time favorite. If I don't say it enough, thank you for your inspiration to savor and capture life's little moments.
i love autumn. it is by far my favourite season. i want to bake, knit, wear layers again, drape the sofa in cosy rugs and knit… oh and garden! its far too hot for that around here during summer. most of all i think i just want some rain. maybe we could have some of the east coast rainfall in this part of the country and you could have it a little drier and we would all be happy!
How funny – I've been hankering after pikelets with jam and cream & stocked up today with the groceries! Hmm, I might have to scrounge one up in a minute!
