Welcome to The 52 Project for 2015! Firstly, there are no rules – if you feel like you want to, just add your blog link to the linky below. If you would prefer to take part via instagram then just #the52project and link to @practisingsimplicity so I can see your portrait for the week.
If you’re new to the project, one of the best things you can do in regards to filing your photos is create a dedicated folder. Save one photo for web resolution and one for print resolution every week and clearly label each one; this ensures that when it comes time to make your 52 book, the process is much easier!
Over the next few weeks I will be posting some photography related posts on a Sunday afternoon to hopefully assist those of you who want to improve your photography and editing skills. Whilst I’m in no way a professional, I do believe that shooting on manual is as easy as one, two, three (yes, three steps) and I’m happy to share them with you. As you can see, I have included my camera settings above and will continue to do so every week. Whilst they are not always the ideal settings for the situation, they give you an idea of how lenient you can be when shooting on manual (ideally I would have shot this at 1/125, f1.4, ISO 1000 but it was one of those moments that I would have missed if I adjusted the settings first). If you have any particular questions relating to photography and editing feel free to leave a comment – I’ll make sure I include my answers in a future post.

Aww what a face – perhaps the shower cap is just for the pretty colours! I'm joining in for the first time today – a little nervously it's true – if I manage to keep up with this I'm going to have 156 portraits of my children by the end of the year so I'm definitely using your top tip to set up folders for the photos now, rather than scrambling back for them in December!

I'll be reminding you each and every week! The key is to treat Sunday as your deadline…..even if you take ten shots of your child reading/playing/eating….it's still a portrait and will ensure you don't fall behind (which seems to be the undoing for most people who drop out) x

Dear Jodi, I'm following your project and watching your fabulous pictures of your beautiful children with such a great interest. They are awesome, – both, the kids and the pictures! I have a technical question if you do not mind. I am really grateful that you started including your camera settings, thus my question is about post-processing of the pictures. Do you process them in Lightroom, RadLab, VSCO, or simply use Lightroom presets?

I use Lightroom for editing – sometimes I'll edit manually, at other times I'll use VSCO presets. I do plan to write a post on editing so keep an eye out x

Is this project only photos of your children? I would love to join in, but my boys are 14 and 17, and I don't think they'd appreciate me joining in. Could I have a photo, say…..from my garden each week? xo Julie
You can photograph whatever you like! In the past, some people have taken photos of their partner, nieces and nephews and home. A portrait series of your garden sounds like a lovely idea x

Love this photo of your daughter! Last night, after looking at some of your Instagram photos, I took everything off our book case, cleaned it and put the books back on neatly, removing some to sell, as I went. I want our home to be less cluttered. Thanks for your inspiration. xo

I'm so excited to join in this year. I'll be taking my pics on an iPhone initially but my Nikon is ready and waiting when I get the courage to turn onto manual 🙂 I look forward to reading your photography tips too Jodi xx

One of my goals for 2015 is to take a photography course. I love playing around with manual but when it is a shot that I feel like I will miss, I switch it back to auto…I would love to be able to stay in manual.

I failed miserably at my project 365 of the girls last year so I've decided to cut back and join you with the 52 week project and hopefully that will be a little more doable. I'm also hoping that my photography study at Tafe will give me extra reason to be taking more portraits of the girls!
I thought I would join in this year though my partner takes the photos sometimes. Good to have a reason to remember to upload them.

I just wanted to say thank you for hosting this lovely project, it will be my third year participating and I'm so thankful that it exists and that I've managed to keep up with it! the end results are most definitely worth it and something to treasure in years to come!
She is just adorable! I think this one might be a actress one day:) I would love to join after being a spectator for a couple of years. One to learn to use my camera better and two because my second just doesn't get much photo time. Do you have to resize your photos for web on Blogger? It's so wonderful you are going to share some photography tips in your already busy bee family schedule.

I purchased an entry level dslr camera earlier last year and have been having some fun (and some frustrations!) learning to use it in manual mode. Many, many over- and under-exposed shots, but have also managed a few keepers 🙂

What a fabulous expression caught! Very cute 🙂 I intended to join in with this last year, but was already over halfway through the year when I discovered the project, so in the end didn't. However, I definitely intend to this year! Looking forward to the challenge and seeing the result of 52 (or probably 104 as I have 2 boys!) at the end of the year.

oups,, sorry forgot to ask a photograph question: did I understand correctly that you're shooting your pics with a manual camera? no digital one? how do you proceed then to put the pics online? I'm asking as I've got a manual Nikon FM2 that I love, but barely use anymore, as I don't have any idea how to use the pics done with this one online… so I usually only use our digital little Lumix, which is not bad, but not always as satisfactory than the old manual Nikon… thanks for your help ot tips on this, best, Cécile
That's my third year… and I'm so grateful of all the beautiful memories I've collected along the way!! This year I'm going to post something different: not just portraits of my daughters, but portraits…in general. I've started with me and it was very hard!! It's not easy to step in front of the camera when you've always been behind!!
A question: why you would have shot with another setting? to "freeze" the drops? to get the focus just on the eyes?

One question, when you say save one for web and one for print? How do u do this? I edit in lightroom, but still trying to teach myself. Will you cover this in your editing post?
