the cottage and the yurt

One of the most interesting parts of the weekend was playing the game “If this was my house I would…” because how could I not dream a dream of living in the 1914 cottage complete with bedroom fireplace, kitchen fireplace, double-glazed windows and stained glass windows? It was only right. I would install custom made bookshelves, paint the orange walls white, introduce our leather lounge, photos and nick-nacks to the space and install an island bench in the kitchen. I don’t think this is too much to ask.

The mud-brick yurt (yes, I said mud-brick yurt) at the retreat made me weak at the knees too – sunken lounge next to roaring fireplace, floor to ceiling cedar-framed windows and white lantern lights had me packing my bags and moving the family.
Of course, a weekend away is just not the same without board games – scrabble, cluedo, monopoly. Or the cups of tea and bakery treats – iced (with 100s and 1000s) orange and almond cupcakes were delish.
This is my last mountains post. Promise. I just had to share.

It looks so lovely. We played that game at a cottage we rented in Maleny for a wedding. Wrap around verandas, lavender and rose gardens, original fixtures, a dream come true for me if we ever brought a house like it.

I love all your mountain posts and would be quite happy for you to sneak in a few more pics.

I've stayed in that yurt! Well, I slept in one of the surrounding cottages, but the yurt was the general meeting area for the group of people I was with. It's a lovely property. Glad you had a good time!

Two weeks ago when we were in Colorado, we stayed in a Yurt in the middle of Colorado backcountry. It was absolutely amazing, and we're still daydreaming about it. There were two, side by side. So if you are ever in the states and want to visit a beautiful mountain range, we should reserve them side by side and spend a long weekend as neighbors πŸ™‚

I've been enjoying the mountains posts. I am up to Mount Victoria next weekend. A few (was a few, now a handful) of girlfriends are heading up there for a weekend – sans partners and children. Too special.

That does look lovely. Can I ask what cottage it is? I've been trying to find an affordable place to have a weekend getaway in Katoomba or Leura, and that cottage looks pretty perfect πŸ™‚

I too dream of living in a yurt. There would be a main yurt as the living quarters, with a separate yurt for my sewing studio. Connected by a covered walkway and surrounded by gardens. Ah…. maybe one day!
