welcoming marigold fable
Our darling littlest one arrived on Monday 24th July in the wee hours of the morning. Her birth was intense and quick after a few days of early-ish labour and she was born en caul – strange and wonderful. I will write down the story of her birth soon but ultimately it was an incredibly redeeming and empowering experience.
We came home when she was 12 hours old and introduced her to her big, doting siblings. These photos are wonderfully honest captures of a two-year-old who wants to play ball with his “Baby Sister! Baby Sister!” and an even bigger brother who fawns and fusses with complete adoration. As for Poet, she cried for half-an-hour as she held Marigold – complete and utter overwhelm as she soaked it all in. A sister! Her dream come true.
How am I? I’m elated and weary and happy and tender. I came out of the birth with no tears or grazes but my pelvis and ligaments are incredibly sore and so for now rest and recovery is a priority. I’m napping when I can and embracing the unpredictability of these newborn days…light-filled and beautiful despite the ever-growing washing pile and the demands of big siblings adjusting…each in their own way.
A big thank you for all your well wishes and kindness over the past few weeks. I’ll be back here soon.
Beautiful. <3
Poet looks so grown. I've been reading your blog since it way back when it was just Che. Thank you for sharing such tenderness. Enjoy these early days.
Oh, their different reactions are so interesting & telling of their personalities. My second, who is 7, was the emotional one. He couldn’t stop crying! Take it slowly & ignore the washing for now. I have mountains of it everywhere! I think that is just the way it’s going to be for a while… Xxxxxx
Been thinking of you and your gorgeous family. xxx
Oh Jodi, I’m all tearing reading just how Poet reacted to having Marigold, how beautiful!
Love Rhi xx
I teared up looking at Poets expression, such love & joy!
Oh I love her name so much, and those sweet pictures of your family… this is beautiful really!
I’m so moved by Poet’s reaction. Wow, what a beautiful, precious family you have, Jodi.

She is so beautiful and thank you for sharing such beautiful pictures…and she’s born on my same birthday!!! Your blog post makes me look back and remember my own two births, which I still haven’t got around to recording…but I must do that, before the little details are gone from memory. Best wishes for the first part of getting to know one another.
Beautiful baby sister with a lovely name! Enjoy these hazy days of loving.
Congratulations to all of you! Beautiful family!
Hugest congratulations to you all, and warmest wishes for this settling in period.
Jodi, Reading that Poet cried with joy made me cry! Can’t think of better way to arrive in the world than in a lovely big water balloon – lucky girl! These photos are wonderful. Long time reader x Clare
So wonderful! I can not get over how beautiful her name is!! What tender moments. Hope you are recovering well and everyone is finding their new rhythm xx
Congratulations on the arrival of such a sweet girl with an even sweeter name. I’ve been reading for years and have been awaiting this post eagerly! My own third baby is due eight weeks from now and seeing Marigold’s face and the reaction of her siblings makes me all the more excited. My own daughter is wishing so hard for a baby sister to dote on and although I know whatever baby comes will be the right one I can’t help but hope her wishes be granted because to have a sister is one of life’s greatest blessings in my opinion.
What a beautiful child and beautiful name!! Wow! So glad to hear she is here! All your children are so wonderful!
Welcome little Marigold and congratulations to the whole family. It has been a pleasure to read along as your family grows. I’m sure you will all enjoy and treasure these precious early moments. Heartwarming!
I am in awe of her beauty and her name is just so gorgeous, I love the story behind her name too. May she be blessed with love, happiness and inner joy all her life. I am so thrilled Poet got her little sister too. Congratulations to all your family xx
