Our darling littlest one arrived on Monday 24th July in the wee hours of the morning. Her birth was intense and quick after a few days of early-ish labour and she was born en caul – strange and wonderful. I will write down the story of her birth soon but ultimately it was an incredibly redeeming and empowering experience.

We came home when she was 12 hours old and introduced her to her big, doting siblings. These photos are wonderfully honest captures of a two-year-old who wants to play ball with his “Baby Sister! Baby Sister!” and an even bigger brother who fawns and fusses with complete adoration. As for Poet, she cried for half-an-hour as she held Marigold – complete and utter overwhelm as she soaked it all in. A sister! Her dream come true.

How am I? I’m elated and weary and happy and tender. I came out of the birth with no tears or grazes but my pelvis and ligaments are incredibly sore and so for now rest and recovery is a priority. I’m napping when I can and embracing the unpredictability of these newborn days…light-filled and beautiful despite the ever-growing washing pile and the demands of big siblings adjusting…each in their own way.

A big thank you for all your well wishes and kindness over the past few weeks. I’ll be back here soon.

Poet looks so grown. I've been reading your blog since it way back when it was just Che. Thank you for sharing such tenderness. Enjoy these early days.

Oh, their different reactions are so interesting & telling of their personalities. My second, who is 7, was the emotional one. He couldn’t stop crying! Take it slowly & ignore the washing for now. I have mountains of it everywhere! I think that is just the way it’s going to be for a while… Xxxxxx

She is so beautiful and thank you for sharing such beautiful pictures…and she’s born on my same birthday!!! Your blog post makes me look back and remember my own two births, which I still haven’t got around to recording…but I must do that, before the little details are gone from memory. Best wishes for the first part of getting to know one another.

Congratulations on the arrival of such a sweet girl with an even sweeter name. I’ve been reading for years and have been awaiting this post eagerly! My own third baby is due eight weeks from now and seeing Marigold’s face and the reaction of her siblings makes me all the more excited. My own daughter is wishing so hard for a baby sister to dote on and although I know whatever baby comes will be the right one I can’t help but hope her wishes be granted because to have a sister is one of life’s greatest blessings in my opinion.
