frequently asked questions
I’ve had quite a few emails of late and I apologise if I haven’t responded to yours. It seems that there’s lots of you who have questions for me – everything from “how to establish a career as a freelance writer” to “the best breathing techniques for transition.”
I’ve decided to create a ‘frequently asked questions’ page but before I start I thought I’d open up question time………

Hi beautiful Jodi,
As someone relatively new to the blogging world – how did you develop such a large following, so quickly?
P.S. love your work! 😉
You always look so put together how do you manage?
I have complete control over the photos that get published here 😉
I was just wondering if you could please continue to celebrate motherhood, & family the beautiful way in which you do?
🙂
Honestly, noone does it more beautifully xx
Oooh, what about advice you'd give newbie bloggers? Maybe an insight into Che & Fidel – a 'behind the scenes' look? How much of your time the blog takes perhaps… I just know, though, whatever you come up with it'll be a interesting read…
You're not the first person to ask Vanessa. I'd be delighted to write a post on this…stay tuned x
I second that request! 🙂
Yes I third that. And I am always interested in the 'how does she do it?' question, how other mothers manage their time and/or find the support to be with their children and partner and work and look after their well-being. Thanks Jodi x
What subject did you study at university and where and did this influence your writing in any way?
HI Jodi!
I have been meaning to email and ask this silly little question so this is appropriate!!
I saw on instagram a homemade cleaning mix you use that included clove oil…. but can't for the life of me remember what the other ingredients are… would you mind sharing again please?
Thank you!!
As a side note: I bought a my sakura bloom sling after seeing you use it here – and I used it today 5 days post C-Section … BEST sling I have ever used!! So comfy for me and the wee one. THANKS!!
Samara x
Hey Jodi,
Hands up…I was one of those emails :)))
I'd just love to delve more into understanding the world of freelance writing, and how to make a living from it 🙂 Where to start? What to do? Who to contact? etc 🙂
Thank you! I love the idea of a FAQ section on here 🙂
x
I love your answer to Victoria's question.
I second the clove oil question! 🙂
Hi Jodi,
I'm a mother, a writer, and my dream is to one day teach prenatal yoga. I gravitated to your blog because of that overlap in our interests and I would love to hear more about creating and growing a freelance writing career as well as more about the path you took to becoming a yoga teacher.
I love your blog and am excited for a FAQ post! Thank you!

How did you and Daniel get to be so awesome?
i second tim's question.xx
I'd be interested to hear more about your and Daniel's "leap of faith". In particular, your personal journey to trusting yourselves enough to do it.
your favourite (not children's) books please
Jodi, any thoughts on staying present and in-the-moment while blogging and taking photos, as a blogger this is something I think about often. I like Tim's question too 🙂
I would love to know more on how you and Daniel decided when was a good time to start a family. Do you have some insight as to readiness and having a wee one? Thanks~
I can definitely tell you about 'expanding' our family but as for 'starting' – well, Che was the best surprise in the world. x
Ooh, I'm so looking forward to these answers x
I second Kyla and Tim Coulson questions…what are your tips to grow as a good couple?
Do you have special moments/routines with only you and Daniel, ora do you both go out without the kids?
I am newly married and would like to know how do you take time to nurture your couple, to feel connected to each other on the day-to-day routine?
Hugs from Italy 🙂
Jodi, I would love your best tips for preparing for labour – all the things to do in the lead up like yoga, raspberry leaf tea, etc and then your best advice during! 🙂
Hello Jodi,
Everyone is coming up with such wonderful questions–I can't wait to read your answers.
I would like to know what you listen to when you write, if anything at all. Something soothing, something appropriate to whichever piece you are working on, sounds of rain or as quiet of a home that you can muster?
-Jo
Thanks Jodi.
I guess I wanted to ask you about the best way to overcome ones fears for childbirth. I've had two children, and my second labour in particular was not very pleasant shall we say. It was because the midwife at the hospital had zero bedside manner, she was an old-school hard nosed sort of lady and to her I was just another number. She didn't once tell me I was doing a good job, in fact she yelled at me and told me I was losing the plot! For that reason, I fought against my body and ended up extremely tense and cramped at the end of it. It was quite frankly a horrible experience and has scarred me somewhat. Which is a shame because I would love a third baby.
Any suggestions on how to relax and be in control, no matter who is at the hospital?
Thank you for any advice you may have!
Viki 🙂
Actually, I have another one! What's your coping method when you feel yourself about to loose your patience with little ones?
Hi Jodi,
I have wanting to ask you this for a while and this presents the perfect opportunity. I delivered my son, Phoenix, at home in NYC. It was a beautiful experience that I am so grateful to have had. With that said, I am also extremely thankful for the naiveté of a first time mother. Labor was difficult and painful, as it goes. I would like to have another unmedicated birth at home but find it difficult to put myself in "that place" now that I know how intense it was. I'm not sure what I'm trying to ask here…I guess I would like to know how you mentally and emotionally prepared yourself for Poet's birth, knowing how challenging it was going to be. Thanks for all your insight and beautiful stories/photos. xx K
first time mothers fear the unknown, second time mothers fear the known. I would love to write a post on this x
Hi Jodi,
What programs or software do you and Daniel use for photography and video making?
I'd love to see more in your local area too. I have a holiday home on the Central Coast and I'd love to get a few recommendations of kid friendly places on the coast.
Thanks always xx
~Hi there Jodi,
I am not sure if I have ever commented but I visit often.I find peace in your writing.
My question is are you always as calm and serene as you appear here,do you ever shout, say things to Daniel and Che that you instantly regret?if not how do you stop those words tumbling out?do you even think them?
I hope this isn't too personal
many thanks
Natasha
Hi lovely mama,
I'd love to see your Pinterest board if you keep one.
And I'd also love to hear about your relationship with your partner. How you met, if it's ever hard to be married (of course it is), what you both do to nourish each other while maintaining children and businesses and the household.
And what do you do for yourself? What nurtures you?
xo

Hi Jodi! I am a new reader of yours and am truly smitten with your beautiful space here! I find a little peace escaping to your world for a bit:) I am a new mama and blogger as well (writing my blog is a great creative release for me!) and so I was wondering if you had any advice/tips on balancing blogging great content and being present as a mom? Sometimes I struggle with this because I do love writing on my blog but I also don't want to get so wrapped up in it that I am missing playtime with my son. Also, if you could talk about the role motherhood has had on you creatively-thoughts? Thanks so much for your words! Looking forward to seeing this Q&A soon.
xo, Benicia
Hi Jodi! love you blog!
I would like to know, do you have a yoga routine you do every day?
and also, where do you get your beautiful bedding? your bed and che's?
looking forward for the Q&A!
I always admire your stunning images Jodie and the one question that I did want to ask is how you make your images into the varied sizes I see on your blog? I've tried many times but am unsure of how to do it myself and would love if you could share how you do it. 🙂 x
Hi Jodi! Was just wondering if you could share how you went about transitioning Che from co-sleeping to his own bed? At what age, and would you do anything differently with Poet? We will need to do this at some stage with my daughter who is 19 months & I'm not sure where I'd even start. You seem to have such a gentle approach to parenting I'd love your insight on this. Thanks!
Hello Jodi. I would love to know more about an Ashram. Can anyone go? What do you do there is it expensive? Can you take your whole family and if so what do the kids do? Thank you for your generosity.
